Professional Oboe Reed
$30.00
This reed is at 90%-100% finished. It should play well right out of the box, without adjustments. It might play better with a single adjustment.
This is the reed of choice for students and adults who need concert ready reeds. You can order it made with an RDG, Kunibert-Michel, or Nagamatsu shape. The tubes are natural cork, Glotin, Loree, or Loree AK, and made of straight cane that is 10.0-11mm in diameter, depending on the shape you choose. The gouge can be single or double radius, approximately 0.46-7 at the ears and + /- 0.59 in the center. The dropoff to the resonance windows is a little more gradual than steep, about 0.54. Finished length is about 69mm and the sides of the blend begin at about 65mm. The blend angle is between 30 and 35 degrees from side to center. The tip opening is about 1.025mm at its widest point. The reed will crow C’s and respond at all volumes, taper notes, and play at A=440 for a player with similar physical characteristics as me and whose tone production process is similar to mine.

The Professional reed ships to you at least 90% finished, depending upon your personal preferences. It should play well enough right out of the box without adjustments. It might play better with a single light adjustment. This is the reed of choice for players who want a reed that feels and sounds concert ready.
It is customized to you and your instrument, as much as is possible at a distance. Select an RDG shape (-1, 1, -1N) or a Kunibert-Michel (7.0, 7.25), and a tube length of 45, 46, or 47mm. Pair your shape to a Loree, Loree AK, or Glotin thinwalled brass tube, or a thickwalled Glotin copy with synthetic cork. Cane selected for the Professional is straight or it is culled, and depending upon your chosen shape, split from 10.5-11mm tube cane and gouged approximately 0.47 on the sides and 0.59 in the center, with an ear thickness of about 0.46-0.47 and thread thickness of about 0.52mm. If you want a super fast slope from the center line to midresonance window, my gouger may or may not do it. It depends on how new my gouger blades are. Hah! Just call me and ask me status on that. I often have several species of cane on hand as well. Call for availability.
Finished length is about 69mm and the sides of the blend begin at about 65mm. The tip opening is more closed than some might like, average of about 1.025mm at its widest point, but this will set the reed to crow C’s and respond at all volumes and play at A=440 for a player with similar physical characteristics as me and whose tone production process is similar to mine.*
*I am a “farm girl” robust 5’6″ in heighth; however, my maxillofacial bony structures are fairly finely chiseled. I have moderately thin lips; a small oral cavity with high hard palate; and large, narrowly set teeth. If you are a larger person than I am, have very full lips, a large oral cavity, small teeth, and/or large facial features, my reeds probably just aren’t going to fit you. Additionally, my Loree AK is fairly new and plays sharp, so I may build too much low pitch floor into my reeds for you. I’m afraid you’ll find my reeds play too flat for you.
